God’s Law of Liberty & Love

Love

(Mt 22:34-40)

34But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Liberty

Ps. 119:45, And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

James calls God’s Law:

  • James 2:8, “…the royal law…”
  • James 1:25, “…the perfect law of liberty…”

Isa. 42:21, The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

Mt. 5:17-18, 17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Christ says of Himself in Ps. 40:8, 8I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Ps. 119:142, Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

Ps. 119:151, Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.

Ps. 119:172, My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.
