Did you know God’s character expands the age of the universe?
Consider the following verses connected to the following 4 lines of reasoning from the Scriptures:
- God’s character of long-suffering love.
- The slow pace of change of a created being’s character from fully loyal to God to completely rebellious to God.
- Satan came to Adam and Eve an already fallen foe in Genesis 3.
- The 3 “from the beginning” phrases in the Bible that are listed on the front of the chart, Panel x.
Reason 1: God’s Character of Suffering Long with Sin.
2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Mal. 3:6, “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”
Heb. 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
Reason 2: The Slow Pace of Change from total loyalty to God to fully rebellious against Him.
Mt 24:12, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Notice the original meaning of the word “wax” in the Greek:
5594. ψύχω yuxō, psoo’-kho;
A primary verb; to breathe (voluntarily but gently; thus differing on the one hand from 4154, which denotes properly a forcible respiration; and on the other from the base of 109, which refers properly to an inanimate breeze), that is, (by implication of reduction of temperature by evaporation) to chill (figuratively).
:–wax cold.
This means that no change from fully loyal to fully rebellious happens overnight. Instead, that change happens gradually.
Therefore, Satan’s pace from being totally loyal to God (Eze. 28:15) to totally disloyal and therefore cast out of heaven (Eze. 28:15, 16) didn’t happen overnight.
Additionally, there was time for each of the angels that followed him in full rebellion (Rev. 12:4, 7 – 9).
Therefore, from the time iniquity entered Lucifer’s heart to the time he and all his fallen angels were cast out of heaven was a long time!
Reason 3: Satan came to earth as an already fallen foe.
When Satan appeared at the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in Gen. 3, he was already a fallen foe which means the long time from his descent from loyal to disloyal had already occurred.
Reason 4: All “from the beginning” phrases in the Bible are not tied to the creation week of this earth.
